Event #12 Founders Cup Championship
Monday July 24th, 2017
Par 72 (Red 35) Yardage 6875 (Red 2900)
The 24th edition of the Southwest Junior Golf Tour’s Founders Cup Championship was fantastic! It was fun to play in October this year….well, maybe it was not October but with the temps in the 60’s and grey clouds hanging over most of the day it did not feel like July. 54 Tour members took to the course for a unique event that has both a Stroke Play and Shoot-Out component to it. Player of the Year was on the line in several age divisions and of course the crystal Founders Cup Championship trophies were also on the line. The weather was cool but the play was hot and as always the SWGT members made the contest fun and exciting for both themselves and the fans that came out to watch them play! A tremendous thank you to Medina CC for host the SWGT Founders Cup Championship for the 24th time. Great facility and great supporter of the Tour and junior golf! Most importantly, the banquet ended before 8pm so thank you to both Dave and Derek for keeping the evening rolling!
Boys 15-18 Stroke Play Cameron Jean, Medina 77,Ben Gleichauf, N. Olmsted 79,John Galik, Brecksville 80,Jimmy Clark, N. Olmsted 82, Logan Bratsch, Olmsted Twp. 82, Connor Thomas, Medina 82, Adam Cook, Amherst 84,and Carson Wirebaugh, Medina 84 made it to the Shoot-Out. Shoot-Out Ben Gliechauf and Adam Cook survived to the last hole, both by making clutch putts on the 4th Shoot-Out hole. In the end Ben was able to out last Adam and not only win the Shoot-Out but also take the Founders Cup Championship title. Runner up was Cameron Jean and third place went to Jimmy Clark. Connor Thomas was able to secure the points necessary, with his 5th place finish in the Stroke Play portion of the event and by making it to the third hole of the Shoot-Out to take home Player of the Year honors. Great playing all season gentlemen! Just a wonderful display of golf and sportsmanship!
Girls 18-U Stroke Play Isabella Goyette, Medina 91 was able to squeeze by Alessandra Goyette, Medina 94 to take first place in the Stroke Play portion of the contest and then, after several chip offs was able to also win the Shoot-Out. Her Founders Cup Championship title and spectacular play the entire season makes her Player of the Year title a most fitting award. There was some wonderful play all season long and the Player of the Year title looked to be up for grabs but in the end Isabella was able to rise to the top! Ladies, fantastic effort all season long! By the play demonstrated during this season, girls golf in Northeast Ohio is going to be very strong for several more years to come!
Boys 14-U Stroke Play Clayton Greiner, Brunswick 83, Jarrett Nowak, N. Royalton 87, Colin Myslenski, Richfield 87, Cameron Addington, Avon Lake 90, Max Nepomnuceno, Avon Lake 92, Davin Amy, Westlake 94, Kevin Gordon, N. Royalton 96 and Jack Vichill, Westlake 97 all made it to the Shoot-Out. Clayton Greiner decided to save his best golf for the biggest day of the year on the Southwest Junior Golf Tour by taking medalist honors in the Stroke Play portion and then outlasting all comers in the Shoot-Out. Facing down several multiple winners on Tour this season like Colin, Max, and Davin was extremely impressive. As impressive as Clayton’s performance was it was only slightly eclipsed by the fierce competitive force that is Jarrett Nowak. Jarrett’s second place finish in the Stroke Play, lasting through the third hole in the Shoot-Out, and his gutsy play all season long earned him the Player of the Year title. Brilliant play, by all, through out the season! Great fun to be able to see quality play, week in and week out from quality sportsman!
Boys 13-U Griffin Hrabak, Medina 42 put his wonderful skills on display one last time to take the medalist honors and Founders Cup Championship titile. Max Gargano, Medina 44 did his very best to put pressure on Griffin but came up just a bit shy of the top spot. AJ Marcinko, Independence 54 used a few clutch putts to secure third place. Justin Kunka, Broadview Hts. 56, Chase Coleman, Middleburg Hts. 58, and Alex hidden, Hinckley 64 rounded out the top 6 spots. Griffin’s victory allowed him to capture the Player of the Year title. Quality golf games under development, that gives just a glimpse of what good future golf there is to come. Great work all season gentlemen! Keep swinging, keep practicing, and keep the fun going!
Girls 14-U Emily Krutkiewicz, Medina 42 grabbed the Founders Cup Championship title and Player of the Year honors, for the second straight year. A wonderful golfer and more importantly a wonderful young lady that is a fantastic representative of the Best of the Best of the Southwest Junior Golf Tour. Aubrie Rush, Avon 51 used some powerful drives to secure second place. Hannah Stasiowwski, Medina 54 put her steady and improving game on display once again and took third place. Stella Burns, Medina 74 and Payton Phillips, Medina 81 rounded out the top 5 spots. Ladies great effort and improvement all season long! The message is the same, keep swinging, keep practicing, and keep the fun going!
The 24th season of the Southwest Junior Golf Tour is in the books but the results of the season will not be seen until the end of September and early October. One of the Tour’s main objectives is to provide its members high quality competitive golf events to prepare them for their high school careers. The Tour is most proud when its members make a high school team, win a conference championship, or make it to Columbus for the state tournament. If the tour assisted in those achievements of its members, in just the slightest of ways, then the SWGT is doing it job. So good luck over the next couple of months and feel free to contact either Dave or Derek with any scores or results that you would like to share with the entire tour. Registration for the 2018 season begins in March!
