Event #3, The Buzzard Challenge, did not see the buzzards return to Hinckley but it did see June temperatures return to normal. Contested over two of the most “rolling” courses that the Southwest Junior Golf Tour plays the seasonal temperatures and perfect golfing conditions were welcomed. The only thing that was steamy for this event was the spectacular play of the SWGT members!
Jimmy Clark, N. Olmsted 78-72 150 got red hot on the front nine of Ironwood and took control of the event along with medalist honors. Jacob Frey, Broadview Hts. 81-77 158 and Thomas Frey, Broadview Hts. 80-79 159 were vying not only for medalist honors but also bragging rights in the Frey household. Jacob took second to clip Thomas by a shot. Coming off his victory at the 303 Classic Logan Bratsch, Olmsted Falls 81-79 160 played well and took fourth place. Connor Thomas, Medina 82-82 164 keeps up his steady play as he continues to hang around the top of the leader board, looking for that big win! Rounding out the top 6, Blake Shienkaruk, Medina 83-82 165 stayed cool and steady. Wonderful play gentlemen. With 3 events remaining in June the Player of the Year contenders should come more into focus by July 1. Good luck!
Every few years a player comes along and takes the SWGT by storm and it is a blast to just be a spectator to such wonderful talent. Isabella Goyette, Medina 92-84 176 secured the top spot with rock solid play on two demanding courses and has set her sights on top prize of Player of the Year. But before it is all said and done a few players might have something to say about that including Alessandra Goyette, Medina 96-93 189 who stayed steady to finish in second place. Paige Rider, N. Royalton 96-96 192 used some local knowledge to secure third. Ellen O’Leary, Rocky River 100-95 195 made a positive move on day two to finish fourth and rounding out the top 5,
Jennifer Lutz, N. Royalton 109-99 208 also took advantage of some positive hometown vibe. Great work ladies! The next 5 weeks are going to be fun!
Liam Doyle, Rocky River 89-84 173 stayed patient and consistent on his way to the medalist honors. Three others were in hot pursuit by Liam was able to make the putts coming down the stretch that was the difference. Jack Vichill, Westlake 87-87 174 secured second using powerful drives that makes courses play very short. If the putts start to fall, players beware! Jarrett Nowak, N. Royalton 93-84 177 took third place by way of a scorecard playoff over Davin Amy, Westlake 92-85 177. The competitive level of this group is tremendous! Each player has his own strengths and each has the ability to win events. Who ever wins Player of the Year will have earned it. Good luck!
Boys 13-U Griffin Hrabek, Medina 26 used straight drives and some good putting to take the top spot. Andrew Osowski, N. Royalton 31 did his best to put some pressure on Griffin but came up a little short and settled for second place. Daniel MeKee, N. Royalton 39 did not want to be left out and made some good putts to finish third. Rounding out the top 7 were Alex Hedden, Medina 40 and Max Gargano, Medina 40 tied for fourth, sixth place was Chase Coleman, Middleburgh Hts. 41 and seventh place was Parker Phillips, Medina 44. Griffin has one hand on the Player of the Year but there are still a lot of points left. Good luck gentlemen.
Girls 14-U Emily Krutkiewicz, Medina 28 is playing some wonderful golf as she secured the top spot again. SWGT rookie Aubrie Rush, Avon 33 brought some game to the Buzzard’s Nest and took second place. Simona Kozul, Hinckley 38 is using some big drives to keep herself in the mix every week. Rounding out the 6 spots were Stella Burns, Medina 43, fourth place, Sidney Frazier, Medina 48 fifth place, and Grace Bandwen, Wadsworth 50 and Morgan Piersall, Hinckley 50 tied for sixth. Keep working ladies! Every week your games are getting better!!
