There is nothing like sunshine, summer breezes, fantastic golf, and pizza! The Southwest Junior Golf Tour had plenty of all those things for Event #7 at Valleaire GC. The temperature was only 30 degrees cooler at the beginning of the day compared to the end of the day on Monday but that did not stop SWGT members from firing up their golf games. 71 players competed in both the Champion and Founders Series, making this one of the largest fields of the season.
Boys 15-18 Luke Seelie (N. Olmsted) carded a 75 for his second consecutive title and making a complete sweep of the last week of June. 120 Player of the Year points in two events jumped Luke up to third place. Ross Scherler (Medina) 77 showed his strong play while taking second place and starting his back nine with an eagle 2! Lukas Vollman (Hinckley) 78 made a great turn around from a 42 to a 36 on the back to secure third place. Avery Borak (Medina) 80 is back after having to take some time off to rest a wrist injury. Blake Rudy (N. Royalton) 80 makes his 2016 debut with a strong fourth place showing. Great work today gentlemen!
Girls 18-U Christina Williams (Medina) fired a 77 today to take medalist honors and the proximity prize on hole #18.
Lyndsay Blum (Independence) 84 continues to impress with her consistent and solid play. Today’s second place finish gave her enough Player of the Year points to take the top spot. Alyson Kovach (Strongsville) 92 took home another medal as her first week for the 2016 season has yielded a second place and a third place finish. Paige Rider (N. Royalton) 95 took fourth place and Audrey Zedella (Hinckley) 96 took fifth place, both using some local knowledge to their advantage. Great effort ladies!
Boys 14-U Ross Williamson (Medina) 80 over came a little hiccup near the end of his round to capture his third title of the season. Blake Shienkaruk (Medina) 84 tried to keep pace but came up a little short and finished in second place. Dylan Champney (Sheffield Vlg.) 87 stayed solid all day and won a scorecard playoff to secure third place. John Galik (Brecksville) 87 lost the scorecard playoff but took his second consecutive proximity prize, fourth place, and added to his Player of the Year total to maintain his lead. Exciting and spirited competition is on full display with this group at each event. Fun to watch gentlemen!
Girls 14-U Ellen O’Leary (Rocky River) 53 used solid driving and some timely putting to capture another title this season. Maddie Debnar (Medina) 58 played tough all day and hit one stumbling block that tripped her up in the middle of her round, but she did take second place. Erin Frey (Medina) 58 making her 2016 debut played solid all day and lost a scorecard playoff to finish in third place. Good work today ladies!
Boys 13-U Clayton Greiner (Brunswick) 50 just ripped his first tee shot which propelled him the rest of the way to medalist honors. Joseph Sbatella (N. Royalton) 57 hit a few clutch pitch shots and made just enough putts to take second place. Mark Sowers (Brecksville) 58 again gave 100% of his effort on every shot and secured third place. The Founders Series was created to assist players to grow their competitive games and these young men are making great strides every week. Outstanding gentlemen!
