Event #6 Columbia Hills CC
Monday June 27th, 2016
Par 71 Yardage 6407
Outstanding! That is the only way to describe Event #6 of the SWGT’s 2016 season. Columbia Hills CC was a great host, from the wonderful condition of the course (the best so far of the season), the attentive staff, the abundance of sunshine, the speedy greens, fewer cicadas, second largest field of the season, and solid play from top to bottom.
Boys 15-18 Luke Seelie (N. Olmsted) 76, 2015 Player of the Year in the Boys 14-15 age division collected his first victory of the season with the low round of the day in any age division. Adam Cook (Amherst) 77 used a four birdie, 34, back nine to secure second place. Kody Mann (Medina) 78 won a scorecard playoff to take third place over Lukas Vollman (Hinckley) 78. Brandon Netzel (N. Ridgeville) finished with 79, a tie for fifth place and remains at the top of the Player of the Year standings.
Girls 18-U Lyndsay Blum (Independence) 90 took home her second title of the season and pulled closer to Madison Butler (Hinckley) for Player of the Year honors. Alyson Kovach (Strongsville) 97, making her SWGT debut used some home course knowledge to finish in second place. Meghan Allman (Olmsted Falls) 99, also making her SWGT debut took on the heat, course, and competition and secured third place.
Boys 14-U Jack Vichill (Westlake) 89 used some solid putting to grab his first title of the season. Jack has played solid golf all season so it was just a matter of time before he broke through. One more hat has now been thrown into the ring for Player of the Year! John Galik (Brecksville) 90 not wanting to give us his top spot in the POY standings took second place and the proximity prize for his play on hole #15. Blake Shienkaruk (Medina) 92 does not know anywhere else to be except somewhere near the top of the leader board. July is going to be fun to watch in this division.
Outstanding play by all today. One goal today was to complete the round as soon as possible to avoid as much of the heat as possible and that goal was accomplished. Event #7 Valleaire, Wednesday, is the last event in June and as it has become to be known…pizza day!
