The day started windy, dark and dreary but finished with sunshine and smiles. Medina CC was in great shape once again this year adding to the special day that the Founders Cup Championship has become. Two of the five Players of the Year races would be determined by the the day’s final outcomes and the competition for the crystal Founders Cup trophies was intense all around!
Boys 16-18 Congratulations to Austin Jenkins (N. Royalton) for capping his Player of the Year title with a solid 5th place finish. The medalist was Danny Zahn (N. Olmsted) with 115, which included a 35 on the Blue 9. Nick Schley (Brunswick) topped Chad Dubiel (Hinckley) for second place by winning the first hole in their sudden-death playoff. Wonderful play by a fantastic group of young men that have competed on the Southwest Junior Golf Tour for several seasons. The Tour appreciates their efforts and wishes them the very best in their future golf and academic endeavors.
Boys 14-15 Congratulations to Jimmy Clark (N. Olmsted) for finishing his off his great SWGT season with a third place finish, 122 and cementing his position as Player of the Year. Danny Soucie (Olmsted Falls) limped his way around all 27 holes of the Founders Cup Championship on route to a 116 total and medalist honors. Ben Jones (Strongsville) capped off a solid summer of golf with a total of 119 and second place. September and October will find these players and many others from this age group well. Book your hotel rooms in Columbus now because it will not surprise anyone if one or more of these players find their way to the OSU golf course. Good luck gentlemen!
Girls 16-18 Congratulations to Loren Kreider (Westlake) on her second place finish, 129 and on becoming a back-to-back winner of the Player of the Year title. Karly Alexander (Hnckley) took medalist honors with a total of 128. Samantha Burmeister (Avon) finished with 132, good enough for third place. Girls golf has continued to grow in Northeast Ohio over the past 21 years and it is great to see that so many are still working hard to compete at the highest levels. The Tour appreciates your efforts and wishes you the very best in your future golf and academic endeavors.
Girls 13-15 Congratulations to Sophia Trombetta (Independence) as she continued her march to the Player of the Year title with a 123 total and another medalist honor this season. Christina Williams (Medina) shot 125 to take second and Sonum Jagetia (Westlake) had a 138 total for third. The Southwest Junior Golf Tour and its members had the pleasure of watching members from two high school programs, Highland and Independence, that have the fire power to make big noise in October. Leadership coming from the likes of Madison Butler (Hinckley) and Sophia, the sky is the limit for these teams. Good luck to all!
Boys 12-13 Congratulations to Jake Moraca (Strongsville) on capturing his first, of what could many, Player of the Year titles. His fourth place finish, 138 total secured the title. Adam Cook (Amherst) took medalist honors with a total 127, Jacob Henyey (Brecksville) won a sudden-death playoff over Max Toom (Brunswick) for second place. Each shot 137. Fine golfers and better young men. Some of the greatest sportsman that the Southwest Junior Golf Tour has. Great job gentlemen and good luck with the upcoming school year!
