Southwest Junior Golf Tour
Event #9 Pleasant Valley GC
Monday July 14th, 2014
Par 72/Yardage 6912
The weather looked like it would play a factor as the fog was thick to start and the temperatures were, more spring like, than summer like. In the end the sun broke through a little, the fog went away, and the temp just barely broke 80. A great day to play golf. The course was in wonderful shape and with 71 players the field was packed with great competition.
Boys 16-18 Garrett Orseno (North Ridgeville) returned to his winning ways by posting a 75 to take medalist honors. Michael Onorato (North Roylaton), playing in his last event of the season, set a new land speed record, along with his fellow playing competitors, by finishing their round in under 4 hours. Easy to do when you only take 76 shots as Michael did. Great job gentlemen!! Chad Dubiel (Hinckley) shot 77 to take 3rd. Sean Devney (North Royalton) continued his good play with a strong 4th place finish with a 78.
Boys 14-15 With 3 events left and over 300 Player of the Year points still available there could be a shuffle at the top of this age group but at present Jimmy Clark (North Olmsted) is staking a claim to the top honor that is almost impossible to deny. A two shot victory today with a 75 to Ben Gliechauf’s (North Olmsted) 77, and Jules Blakely’s (Westlake) and Ben Jones’ (Strongsville) 79, Jimmy continues his dominate performance this year on the Southwest Junior Golf Tour.
Girls 16-18 Madison Butler (Hinckley) took top honors with the low round of day, 73. She will miss the last couple of events this season as she will be preparing for and competing in the Optimist International Junior Golf Tournament, held in West Palm Beach, Fla, on the PGA National Golf Club. Good luck! Loren Krieder (Westlake) did well to stay close to Madison today, as her 76 was good for second place. Loren has a substantial lead at this point but closing in is Karly Alexander (Hinckley) who shot 80 and took third place.
Girls 13-15 Sophia Trombetta (Independence) continues to impress as she posted a 79 today to take medalist honors. She has played different courses, under different conditions, and with some very good competition and she has delivered every time. Christina Williams (Medina) fired a solid 85 for second place and took home the proximity prize with wonderful shot on hole #14. Sonum Jagetia (Westlake) is not going to go away quietly as her 3rd place finish today allowed her to keep a hold on Player of the Year honors. Sonum and Sophia are only separated by 15 points.
Boys 12-13 A win last week and a second place finish today has given Jacob Henyey (Brecksville) a 10 point advantage in the Player of the Year race. Max Toom (Brunswick) and Jake Moaraca (Strongsville) both has 83’s today. Max won the scorecard playoff to secure medalist honors. The second place finish kept Jake from catching Jacob but there are more POY points to come. Jacob and Adam Cook (Amherst) had 86’s, with Jacob winning their scorecard playoff. The race is on!!!!
