Southwest Junior Golf Tour
Event #3 Buzzard Challenge
Hinckley Hills GC/Ironwood GC
Tuesday/Wednesday June 17th/18th, 2014
The weather looked like it was going to be a factor and other than Tuesday, when the temp reached 89 degrees, Mother Nature cooperated. Both courses were in wonderful condition and scores reflected such. This was a record week for the SWGT as it was the first time that in back to back events under par scores were recorded. Last week was Kyle McCafferty (Avon) and this week Danny Zahn (North Olmsted). It would be great to see four in a row with the Adult-Member Championship on Saturday and the Western Rodeo next week! Good luck to all and lets go low!!!
BOYS 16-18 Danny Zahn (North Olmsted) made his tour debut with an outstanding 2 over par total of 144, to capture the event and begin his quest of another Player of the Year trophy. But Garrett Orseno (North Ridgeville, aka The Ville), Austin Jenkins (North Royalton) and Michael Onorato (Hinckley) also played well to secure the top 3 spots in the Player of the Year race.
BOYS 14-15 Jimmy Clark (North Olmsted) and Joe Onorato (HInckley) slugged it out for two days and in the end Jimmy came out on top with a two stroke victory firing a 74 on day two. These two share the top spot in the Player of the Year race with 200 points each. Ross Scherler (Medina) is third at 175 and Blake Rudy(North Royalton) is fourth at 160. The race is certainly on!!
GIRLS 16-18 Madison Butler (Hinckley) made her tour debut is spectacular fashion with a 16 shot victory to take home the title. Hallie Schuld (Medina) continued her solid play which allowed her to keep hold of the top spot in the Player of the Year standings. Loren Kreider (Westlake) is knocking on the door as she takes over the number 2 spot and is followed closing by Nikki Johnson (Cleveland). These ladies are playing wonderful golf and this should be a wonderful race to the end!
GIRLS 13-15 Sophia Trombetta (Independence) put on another marvelous display of golf as she tackled the hills of Hinckley with rounds of 81 and 85 and captured the Buzzard Challenge title. Sophia is going to be hard to catch but Sonum Jagetia (Strongsville) and Christina Williams (Medina), nearest competitors in the Player of the Year race, will do all they can over the next few weeks to narrow the gap.
BOYS 12-13 Jake Moraca (Strongsville) was fantastic with rounds of 87 and 89. Coming off a qualifying round for the Optimist golf tournament on Monday, Jake was able to secure his 2nd SWGT title of the year moving himself up to second place in the Player of the Year standings. Colin McClowry (Medina) took third place in the event behind Jacob Henyey (Brecksville) and was able to hold on to the top spot.
