2013 FANTASTIC FINISH FOR FOUNDERS CUP CHAMPIONSHIP!
Monday July 29th, 2013
The 20th season and 20th playing of the Founder Cup Championship came to an end with spectacular finish. A perfect sunny and warm day allowed for good golf to be played all day as the Southwest Junior Golf Tour finished its season with its first ever 27 hole event. All members were up for the challenge and some even wanted to play more and did! Player of the Year in all age groups were decided on the course and the competition was intense. As wonderful as the golf was the awards banquet had a few twist and turns of its own as the Fab Four made an unannounced visit and decided to stay. The tour’s motto is Looking Ahead! but the clock was turned back as 20 years of memories filled the day and electrified the evening!
Players of Year: Boys 16-18 Jackson Farling, Boys 14-15 Danny Zahn, Boys 12-13 Favian Busnawi
Girls 16-18 Loren Kreider, Girls 13-15 Madison Butler
Boys 16-18: Colin Miller won a hole playoff against Nick Schley. Nick had to fend off an attack of bees during his round and despite being stung three times was able to finish in a tie, at 112, but he was unable to sting Colin during the playoff. Colin completed a 10 day span on the tour that included a runner-up finish in the Match Play Championship and the Medalist honors at the Founders Cup. Congratulations to all for another fantastic year of great golf!
Boys 14-15: This sudden-death playoff (tied at 110) lasted 6 holes as Ben Jones was able hold on against the fierce competition of Danny Zahn. On the 6th hole of the playoff Danny aggressively went after a short birdie try that spun out of the hole and ended up further away then when he started. A gutsy play from a gutsy player against Ben, who is becoming a force to be reckoned with, especially with the high school season fast approaching. Great finish, great year, and good luck to all in the Fall!
Boys 12-13: Favian Busnawi continued his winning ways as he also took extra holes to grab the Founders Cup and Player of the Year titles from Ben Gliechauf. Again, two wonderful competitors did not have enough golf after 27 holes and decided to play some more as they shared the lead, 122, after regulation play. Favian was able to secure a par on the second playoff hole to win. these two players went at each other all season long. Someone has to win and some one has to lose but these to are certainly champions no matter what! Good luck to Favian in Pinehurst, NC as begins another event later this week.
Girls 16-18: Karly Alexander has just had a great couple of weeks. Her game is peaking just as the high school season is beginning. She will be a player to watch. As for her efforts at the Founders Cup she secured a 6 shot victory by getting better as the day went on with rounds of 45, 39, and 38. Only outstanding competitors get better as the situation get tougher. Also, congratulations to Karly for being recognized with the Sportsmanship of Year Award. To all the ladies good luck in the Fall as you all have worked long and hard to help yourselves and your high school teams be successful.
Girls 13-15: With out a doubt the most consistent player on the tour this season, Madison Butler. A 6 shot victory with rounds of 40, 36, and 37 allowed her to capture the Founders Cup title along with securing Player of the Year honor. Week in and week out Madison brought her “A” game. She never took a hole off, a round off, or a week off. She competed nonstop all season long and the results are no surprise. A wonderful competitor, a wonder golfer, and a fantastic young lady. Good luck to all the girls as many will be entering into the high school golf arena for the first time in a few days and others will be looking to build on a good summer of competitive golf to carry them through their sophomore seasons.
Outstanding effort by all of our tour members! The Southwest Junior Golf Tour and the game of golf are better off today because you have made the commitment to do what it takes to be successful. As Fall approaches do not slow down. Set your goals and do what you have to do to achieve them. Have a successful Fall season, have a great school year, and remember that registration for the 2014 Southwest Junior Golf Tour is only 8 months away!!
