2013 MATCH PLAY MADNESS
The Southwest Junior Golf Tour’s Match Play Championship was fantastic! Thursday and Friday had 90 degree temperatures, firm and fast conditions, morning and afternoon rounds, and stiff competition as each player gave their very best in trying to capture the Match Play Championship crown! Valuable Player of the Year points were earned and a couple of races have gotten tighter. Congratulations to all the participants as match play is extremely grueling both mentally and physically.
Boys 16-18, Jackson Farling had a rollercoaster of a ride against Collin Miller, as Collin would not go quietly and kept fighting until the very end. Two terrific young men, competed as two honorable gentlemen. It was fun and exciting to watch two veterans of the SWGT compete at the highest level. For 20 seasons not the SWGT has been home of some best junior golfers and some of the finest young people in NE Ohio. Jackson and Collin are two of the best examples of that fact. Thank you and great work!
Boys 14-15, Danny Zahn was able to hold off Alex Kisel. Another match that had its ups and downs but this one needed one extra hole before the final outcome could be decided. Two wonderful competitors brought very sharp “A” games to this match. Danny was put to the test as Alex made big shots and big putts through out the match. Danny tried pulling away a couple of times but Alex would come right back with a clutch approach or putt to bring the match back. Excellent display of good sport today gentlemen!!
Boys 12-13, Ben Gleichauf has been on his game for the past two weeks and today was no exception. He was able to secure a win over a tough competitor in Colton Levey. Ben may have to get a club reshafted as he took on a tree on hole #6, knowing that he would have to give it his all if he was going to best Colton who had been impressive in his wins getting to the final match. Outstanding effort gentlemen!
Girls 13-18, Alicia Porvasnik was able to outlast Karly Alexander to take the title. These young ladies battled for 21 holes putting on a clinic of driving accuracy, approach shots, and putting that was unbelievable at times. Karly made a must birdie on 18 to extend the match and then followed it with an 8 foot par putt on 10 to keep her match alive as Alicia continued to hit fairways and greens, applying the pressure. Both two putted on 11 for par and then on 12, a must 10 footer for Karly just slid by the hole and Alicia claimed the victory. Outstanding play by both for 21 holes. This may be the “Greatest Game Ever Played” on the Southwest Junior Golf Tour. Simply fantastic, ladies!!
