2013 INDEPENDENCE CLASSIC REVIEW/WEATHER REPORT
Mother Nature provided much of the fireworks, especially on Wednesday at Sleepy Hollow, for the inaugural Independence Classic. 16 days of rain, new Northeast Ohio record, has saturated golf courses and has cancelled or shortened many local golf tournaments. As a tour we have been lucky that Wednesday was first time that the weather has been an issue for us, so far this season. Some weather highlights are the sink hole, at hole #9, at Valleaire that is giving new meaning to the word valley. The famed Valleaire, sign made from shrubs, is slowing falling downward toward a watery grave. Hopefully they can same it!! The new river in Brecksville, formerly known as Sleepy Hollow Golf Course was very impressive. Round two was delayed by an hour and a half as we had to let the water run off the course so that fairways were passable and greens were puttable (is that a word). You certainly got a better idea of how the Grand Canyon was formed after watching the water run through that golf course. Wow!!
The biggest winner was Rozlynn Penney, as she was awarded a “major award” in the form of the famed “Leg Lamp” from the film “The Christmas Story.” You should have seen the look on her face when she realized she had won…not sure if it was joy or complete horror? Anyway congratulations for winning our Christmas in July contest as we continue to celebrate our 20th season!!
Boys 16-18, Jackson Farling held onto to get his second win of the season. His 39 added to his 73 gave him a six shot victory in extremely trying conditions. A very good win!
Boys 14-15, Andrew Zawie get his first win of the season as he continues his strong play. His 116 total was good for a two shot victory. He will be looking for win #2 on Monday at Pleasant Valley. Good luck!
Boys 12-13, Ben Gleichauf was able to snatch a victory from the grasp of Favian Busnawi. A difficult task but it was good sport watching two wonderful competitors fight it out. Congratulations Ben!
Girls 16-18, Abby Grospitch put together back to back days of impressive golf to take the title by 11 shots. Outstanding effort! Abby will return at Pine Hills to make a run at win #2. Good luck!
Girls 13-15, Madison Butler continues her great play this season. Her 124 total was good for an 18 shot victory. The win gives her a 75 point lead in the Player of the Year race that is till up for grabs. The next couple of weeks should be fun!!
The sun is coming out so I hope everyone dries out this weekend and we will see you on Monday at Pleasant Valley!
Last chance to sign up for the Founders Cup. Forms and fees are due by Monday!!!!!
